It seems that our Green Team never ceases to find exceptional initiatives and organisations that we can support through our Christmas donation. We’re very happy to contribute something to this gem, which is the Berlin “Fördern durch Spielmittel e.V. (“Further through Games Association”).
Located in Berlin Prenzlauer Berg, its mission is to support social and cultural participation as well as inclusive processes with games – in relationship with the corresponding culture of (gaming) dialogue. It’s a centre for families, games and integration while at the same time gaming place and game rental. The initiative trusts that children become scientists, makers and designers when building games.
They discover natural relationships and try them out practically. That is also why a lot of games can be built in the game workshop or in different programmes such as global learning.
Our donation went to the toy library, an accessible meeting place for children, parents, other family members and childcare professionals since 2003, which offers a wide range of special, interesting and international toys and games. It’s an open room that encourages the possibility to try and rent board, card and any kind of games that are suitable for children. Many of the available toys are handcrafted in their very own workshop by children from special schools, assisted living groups with handicap or elderly people.
It also organises a multitude of events such as Halloween, Christmas or backyard festivals, creativity workshops or bazaars. It understands itself as an inclusive place that offers low-threshold assistance, consulting and advanced training. The game library has no sponsor and is permanently dependent on donations.
We at GameDuell think that the “Fördern durch Spielmittel e.V.”, especially the game library is a great initiative that mediates important and actual topics through games. One could say that their mission is kind of similar to ours, which is bringing people together to have a good time with games.
